The 40th anniversary of “Jaws” has already spawned quite a few special events, including a frothy throwback and a killer lounge act (you can check it out below – it starts at about 12:20), but late this spring the Maritime Aquarium will play host to one of the film’s stars.

Today, the Norwalk institution announced that Richard Dreyfuss will attend a special screening of the 1975 movie, Peter Benchley’s book, on June 14. Tickets for the event go on sale next week.

The movie, who put Steven Spielberg on the map as a top Hollywood director, will be shown on the six-story high IMAX screen on Sunday, June 14.

Tickets go on sale at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 2,  for two screenings of “Jaws.” Prior to the evening show, Dreyfuss will share his experiences in making the film that famously scared millions of people out of the water. Dreyfuss played the story’s marine biologist Matt Hooper.

Dreyfuss would go on to star in a number of hits, including “Close Enounters of the Third Kind,” “Tin Men” and “Stakeout.” His work in 1978 for “The Goodbye Girl” won him a best actor nod at the Academy Awards. Later, he was later nominated for his work in the 1995 film “Mr. Holland’s Opus.”

Maritime Aquarium members had the exclusive first opportunity to purchase seats by calling 203-852-0700, ext. 220 – similar to previous such special events featuring Gene Wilder (for “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”) and Bill Nye the Science Guy, according to a recent news release.

A limited number of remaining tickets go on public sale Monday morning. Visit here to purchase them. Here are the options for tickets as listed in the recent release:

•  a private VIP party at 5:30 p.m. with Richard Dreyfuss, plus reserved seating for the 7 p.m. in-theater talk by Dreyfuss and the movie screening. Tickets: $225, or $200 for Aquarium members.

•  the 7 p.m. in-theater talk with Richard Dreyfuss and screening  of “Jaws” (limited to 310 people). Tickets: $65, or $60 for members.

•  a 1 p.m. screening of “Jaws” (without Richard Dreyfuss). Tickets: $11.50 for adults, $10.50 youths & seniors, $9.50 children.

Although “Jaws” may have made large swaths of people scared of sharks, organizers say the screening also will present an opportunity to dispel some of the rumors and myths about sharks – including those who make their home at the aquarium.
